Tell us a bit about your experience
I began my counselling journey working with adults and families in employment services, supporting them as they navigated returning to work and the Centrelink system. This experience helped me develop strong counselling skills and eventually become a PACFA-registered Clinical Counsellor.
I always knew, however, that working with children and families was the direction I wanted to pursue. I began my Play Therapy training through QIPT and later approached Be Centre about completing my internship. I was very grateful to be given that opportunity, and it has since allowed me to build valuable experience supporting both children and adults across a range of settings.
At Be Centre, I use Child-Centred Play Therapy to help children express themselves, build confidence, and feel safe and understood.
Where are you from?
I grew up on the Northern Beaches and have lots of fond memories of spending time here with family and friends.
What inspired you to work in Play Therapy?
Although I began my counselling career working with adults, I always knew that working with children was the direction I wanted to pursue. When I discovered Play Therapy, it felt like the right fit for me. I was drawn to the way children can communicate, explore their feelings and make sense of their experiences through play, particularly when they may not yet have the words to express what is happening for them.
What do you like most about your job?
I love getting to know each child and building a relationship where they feel safe enough to be completely themselves. It is really special to watch their confidence grow and notice the small but meaningful changes that happen both inside and outside the playroom. I also feel very lucky that children allow me into their world through their play.
I also really value working alongside such a supportive and experienced team. Being able to collaborate, reflect and learn from one another helps me continue to grow as a Play Therapist and ensures that each child and family feels well supported.
What kind of play do you enjoy the most?
I really enjoy imaginative play, especially when a child creates a whole story and invites me to be part of it. I also love creative and sensory play, including painting, craft, sand and anything a little messy. Every child brings something different into the playroom, so I enjoy never quite knowing where their ideas will take us.
