MAKING A DIFFERENCE

EDUCATING KIDS AND TEACHERS ABOUT PUPPETS, MESSY PLAY AND PLAY THERAPY

Mosman Public School (MPS) recently selected Be Centre to be their charity of choice for 2022-23. And to kick the partnership off, one of Be Centre’s play therapists, Lily, took her favourite puppet to an MPS assembly and shared with more than 600 children the reasons why puppets are so helpful in play therapy. Do you know why? There are several reasons but one key reason is that children feel safe using a puppet to express themselves.

Each class supported Be Centre through the Mini-Mos fun run which started their fundraising efforts. MPS raised an amazing $19,910 for Be Centre. WOW! The five classes who raised the most are now the lucky recipients of a ‘messy play’ workshop to be conducted by Be Centre’s resident artist, Karen Atkins.

During the month of September, Erin, who is another member of Be Centre’s clinical team, will share play therapy insights with MPS teachers and provide some trauma-informed strategies that support children with behavioural and emotional concerns.

DID YOU KNOW?

700+ THERAPUTIC FLOOD PLAY BAGS AND AN ONLINE COURSE FOR PARENTS ARE BEING PREPARED FOR LISMORE

In our last newsletter, we said we were trying to secure funding so we could support children and families in Lismore following the floods that impacted so many. Well, we secured some funding from CBA Foundation, Hasbro, and MacDoch Australia which means just over 700 Flood Play Bags will be sent to children through local schools over the next 4-6 weeks.

Tucked inside each Flood Play Bag will also be instructions for parents to log-on to a 45-min online course called Need To Play. It’s been developed for parents/carers providing the reasons why play is so important for children, and lots of tips and activities that can be implemented immediately. Funding for the online course came from NAB Foundation.

RECENT EVENTS SUPPORTING BE CENTRE

Special thanks to:

27 May 2022: The Novus Foundation Charity Dinner supported three charities including Be Centre. An incredible $36,000 was received by Be Centre which helps us support 15 children with a full play therapy program and their families with parent support.

19 June 2022: Mini Mos Fun Run and Fair 2022 is Mosman Public School’s big fundraiser so Be Centre, as their charity partner, volunteered on the day and supported the fair with a stand that did lots of hair colouring! This event continued to educate the community about the power of play therapy.

27 July 2022: Westpac provided Be Centre with 15 new office chairs and 3 stand-up desks for our staff to use replacing some very old ones. Lots of cheers around the office!

31 July 2022: Grill’d Dee Why raised awareness and funds for Be Centre during the month of July with a token given to each Grill’d diner so they could cast a vote for their chosen charity.

21 August 2022: Pittwater RSL Football Club held a gold coin donation drive on their Gala Day with Be Centre being their recipient charity. Lots of fun to be had on the day for all.

Thank you to all our supporters! We’re ever grateful for your support to help kids in need.
