Bushfire impact on children’s mental health

06 May 2021

Be Centre was recently featured in a Sydney Morning Herald news article discussing the mental health impacts on children by the recent bushfires.

One family on the South Coast of NSW described the terror they felt when they were hemmed in by a ring of bushfire on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. It’s not surprising that 5-year-old Nate started having nightmares that intensified over several weeks.

Fortunately, Be Centre was able to provide Play Therapy support to this family (and others) and young Nate’s nightmares subsided. Through this funding (from UnLtd and the St George Foundation) we’re continuing to support other children impacted by the bushfires on the South Coast until the end of June this year.
